Predict the Future

While Visual Enterprise's Concurrent Scheduler wont predict the future, it sure can help understand it.

Most companies that purchase Visual Enterprise for its scheduling abilities aren’t looking for a crystal ball so much as they are looking for a way to be just a little bit less uncertain about the future. They are looking for a tool that will allow them to analyze all of the components of their process and deliver a reasonable prediction as to when they can deliver.

The key to achieving accuracy with scheduling is, not surprisingly, to have a reasonably predictable process. Most companies fail to achieve the results that they desire with scheduling because they fail to tame the predictability monster. Visual’s scheduling system cannot predict the inherently unpredictable. Instead, you must build some predictability into the way that you process orders before scheduling can work for you.

"Tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today."

I have years of experience helping other manufacturers develop the disciplined and predictable processes that are required to make best use of Visual’s scheduling system. These practices include:

  • Encouraging repeatability by helping custom product manufacturers think about products and not just jobs.
  • Develop a common parts bin philosophy to encourage standardization of components.
  • Develop accurate routings and bills-of-material.
  • Build a learning culture by encouraging analysis of product histories and feedback of production problems and on-the-fly design changes from the production floor.
  • Develop a culture of execution, where the work that is planned is the work that gets done and Visual is kept in the loop.

Your company can be taught to effectively use Visual’s powerful scheduling tools, but like much of the work involved in making Visual work, this is not a mere technical exercise. The hard work of implementing scheduling occurs in making the changes to the outdated practices that make your company scheduling unfriendly.

I have a lot of experience in building the buy-in and laying the groundwork to ensure that scheduling implementation is successful. I am Kurt B. Carr and I have years of experience in teaching companies how to use Visual Enterprise as a tool to operate effectively and achieve success.
